ACI-SC CERTIFICATION SCHEME FOR CONCRETE FIELD-TESTING TECHNICIAN COURSE batch 56-3

The ACI-SC Certification Program for Concrete Field Technicians – Grade 1 was developedfor the purpose of certifying concrete technicians who will be qualified to conduct field testson fresh concrete.
The program is expected to upgrade the quality of concrete construction and prepare theindustry for possible future mandatory certification and form the basis for higher-level ofcertification programs.

This presentation introduces ACI 562-25, Assessment, Repair, and Rehabilitation of Existing Concrete Structures—Code Requirements and Commentary. The latest version of the Code includes numerous updates, three new chapters, and a new appendix. An updated companion guide provides expanded information and project examples to assist users in interpreting and applying the provisions.

Topics to be covered include:
• Key changes in the updated Code
• Determining the design-basis code
• Reliability-based assessment and revisions to the detailed assessment equations
• New chapter on fire resistance, assessment, and damage repair
• New chapter on reinforcement details and conditions for structural evaluation and repair design
• New chapter on temporary shoring and bracing
• Construction documents and quality assurance requirements

Learning Objectives:

Recognize the importance of complete construction documentation and quality assurance provisions.

Understand the reorganization and structure of the updated Code.

Recognize that new structural members are governed by the existing building code, while their connections to existing structures follow current code requirements.

Explain the objective of a concrete repair code—to provide a uniform, flexible set of requirements addressing a range of repair scenarios, including conventional reinforced concrete, prestressed concrete, and fiber-reinforced polymer systems.

Describe the effects of fire on reinforced concrete members and methods for determining residual strength.

Determine the development length of historical reinforcement using newly introduced equations.

Describe the various bond conditions at the interface between existing concrete substrates and new concrete overlays or placements.

The course is based on the new SS EN 206 and its compulsory standards SS 544-1 & 2. It gives interpretation of these standards and provides guidance to the production and conformity control of concrete. The course is a continuing education and training programme for engineers and supervisors who are involved in the concrete industry.

The course will be particularly beneficial for technical personnel working in concrete production and at the construction sites. Developers or design office personnel who wish to understand the new concrete standards or to acquire specialised knowledge in concrete technology will also find this course useful.

The course for this batch will be conducted virtually via Zoom.
